Hello! I'm Melinda, visual storyteller and I specialize in capturing real, raw emotion. McKayla and I met last year and it was an instant bond because our hearts and passion for photography were so aligned, but more so because we both have a passion for capturing authentic connection and real emotion through our art. We invite you to join us for a hands on learning experience that you'll never forget as we share what we've learned and how we've grown our businesses. The weekend will be packed with learning, connecting and growing, not to mention lots of laughter and good times. We have 12 spots available. So whether you are starting out or looking to gain a new perspective and community, this retreat will inspire your creative soul.
Why do we call this a "retreat" and not a "workshop"? Quite simply because we are offering more than education. Spending time with other creative souls is good for the heart. Along with the learning, we will be making new friends, sharing and inspiring and enjoying a little self care. You get a weekend with a little pampering so that you can focus on the experience. Morning meditative yoga to start the day, mini massages and other special treats for you as we spend the weekend together connecting, learning and growing. You'll leave the retreat feeling recharged, inspired, relaxed and with a happy heart. It's a girls weekend getaway with the perk of learning in an inspiring setting... truly the best of both!

*Keep in mind if you are in business or starting your business this year, education is a tax deduction.

Questions and Answers:
When and where is it? The retreat will begin late in the afternoon on Friday, October 14th and run through late morning on October 16th and will be held at a large estate or vacation home in the Central New York area. We have narrowed it down to two in the Binghamton area and one just north of Syracuse.
How do we get to know everyone else who is going? Once registration is open, we will be setting up a private Facebook group for all attendees to have a chance to mingle with us and each other. You will receive an invitation to that group as soon as it is live.
What are sleeping arrangements like? To minimize costs, each person will share rooms and bunk with others. There will be all sizes of beds and there will be some sharing so you will be able to requests bunkmates as the event gets closer.
What if I don't know anyone that is attending? That's fine! It can be out of your comfort zone to meet new people but by the end of the weekend, you'll have many new friends!
Since meals are included, what if I have allergies or restrictions? We will send out a survey a few weeks prior to the retreat and all allergies and restrictions will be taken into account and shared with our caterer.
Do I need to bring food or beverages? The event is catered but if you would like to bring any comfort items, feel free to.
Is this a good retreat for beginners? The event is perfect for seasoned photographers as well as those who are interested in filling their passion by learning more. However, we do recommend that all attendees be fairly comfortable shooting in manual mode.
What gear should I bring? Your camera and whatever gear you use regularly. We suggest bringing a laptop but it's not necessary. We will edit in Adobe Lightroom Classic so it's helpful to have but not a necessity. The Adobe Suite is around $10 a month if you want to look into it.
What clothing should I pack? Bring clothing that makes you feel good. Warm clothes and layers as needed for outdoors since the weather in October can get quite chilly. Comfortable clothes for yoga and lounging are a plus. We won't have any formal events to dress for, so plan for low key comfort.
Are there late fees if I don't make a payment on time? Yes. A late fee of $20 per day will apply.
What is the cancellation policy? Due to the nature and our financial commitment of these events, attendees understand that the investment is non-refundable and non-transferrable to another event. Attendee is responsible for the balance or finding an attendee to take over their contract. Details are in the event contract and will be emailed upon submitting the below form.
How do I make payments? You will receive an invoice from Melinda Knutson photography where you can make payments online through a secure link.
